Sunday in the House

Youth Band and Fellowship: Includes relationship building exercises, energizers, and music.
Worship in the House: This will replicate big church service. This service will include music, scripture, and a sermon.
Sunday by grade: This will replicate the previous Sunday school setting, where youth will break out by grade and will be facilitated by Sunday school teachers.
Sunday by topic: This Sunday, youth (grades 9-12) will have the opportunity to facilitate Sunday school. Essentially, youth council members will lead Sunday lessons and will hone their leadership skills to be future Christian leaders. Additionally, Sunday school teachers will assist youth (grades 9-12) in preparing lessons and class discussions. 7 and 8 grades will replicate previous Sunday school setting - being facilitated by Sunday school teachers. 7 grade will continue focusing on Old Testament and 8 grade on New Testament.

Wednesdays in the House
Looking for something to do mid-week, to connect with your church friends for a weekday Sabbath? Wednesdays during the school year, from 6-8pm, the Youth House is open to youth. Come do homework, hang out with friends, eat pizza for $1 a slice and watch a movie. We also have a service opportunity each week to make sandwiches for the Soup Mobile.

Youth Choir
The Westminster Singers Youth Choir sings for worship services on a regular basis and leads special services on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Easter. The choir is composed of youth grades 7 through 12. They rehearse Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm in The Youth House.

Youth Band
The youth band rehearses on Wednesday nights in Founders Hall from 8 to 9 p.m. No matter what instrument you play, there is a place for you! The youth band is a key part of The Gathering in Founders Hall on Sunday mornings. As a space for alternative worship styles, The Gathering is where the youth band leads church members of all ages in worship. Additionally, the youth band leads music in the youth house on Sunday mornings. Contact Zach at zwells@phpc.org if you are considering joining the youth band!

Special Programs and Opportunities

Confirmation
Confirmation is a time for our 9th graders to do a deeper dive in studying the ways of the Reformed faith and the church.  It is a time for them to consider taking up their baptismal vows (taken by their parents on their behalf when they were infants) and making them their own affirmation of faith.  The class is 8 weeks in duration and is being co-taught by Associate Pastor Sarah Johnson and Executive Pastor Paul Seelman.  The  confirmands interested in pursuing active membership at the end of the class will prepare a Statement of Faith to be submitted to Session, who will exam them at a meeting.  Confirmation Sunday is scheduled for 11 a.m. worship on Mother’s Day (May 14).

Retreats
Each year we do a weekend-long retreat for both JR HI (Sept). This happens at Springhill Retreat Center and is an incredibly relaxing, fun, bonding time. This is led by the currnet Mo TLC members. Don't miss out on marker tag!

Youth Council
Open to any active youth participants, the Youth Council helps plan and make decisions for Youth programming.

FUNRaisers
Each year we have several FUNRaisers to earn money for Summer Programs. They are: Souper Bowl of Caring (during the Super Bowl) a Cake Auction and Luncheon (spring). They are lots of fun, and always involve an element of fellowship and service, as well as raising money!

Lock-ins
Also annual stay-up-too-late gatherings in the Youth House! Watch movies, eat too much, sleep too little, just generally have a great time!

Youth Musical
Happens every other year in February (even years). The last three have been Godspell, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and The Wizard of Oz. They are lots of work, lots of fun, and amazingly rewarding experiences for everyone involved!

Treasure Hunt
The biggest single event of the year! On a Saturday in the fall, youth split into teams with an adult driver, heading out across the Metroplex, solving clues, performing various acts to receive the next clue, taking pictures, laughing and having a grand time! Everyone returns to the Youth House for a dinner and victory celebration!

Thanksgiving Breakfast and Worship
On Thanksgiving morning, the Youth serve a breakfast and lead the worship service for the church. It is a very fun, casual, thankful celebration of the day. Fellowship Hall is always filled with warmth, love, and bacon!

Youth Sunday
Youth get to plan and lead worship for the congregation. Seniors preach and there is a celebratory lunch after.

Summer Programs

Mo-Ranch
A Presbyterian Conference center located in Hunt, TX. A beautiful and magical place where we take youth to the following three conferences each summer:

  • Mo-TLC—A SR HI Leadership Conference. Each church is limited to 5 youth, with leadership ability and potential. It's small; it's wonderful! The youth use these leadership skills to participate in Youth Council and lead the Jr High Retreat.
  • JR HI Jubilee—Conference consist Presbyterian Church youth groups from all over Texas coming together for a week of energizers and music, a keynote speaker, small groups, recreation events, and lots of free-time fun! Open to those who have completed 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
  • SR HI Youth Celebration—Jubilee on a grander scale! Open to those who have completed 9-12th grades.

Montreat
A Conference in the mountains of Western North Carolina, with 1,200 Presbyterian youth from all over, where each year we take 36 rising 9th through graduated seniors for an indescribable, amazing experience. Travel is by bus, with an overnight each way in Memphis. Getting there (and back) is half the fun!

Mission Trip
Each year, usually in June, both the SR HIs and the JR HIs do a mission trip somewhere. We've been to Nicaragua, Mississippi, and other places. Each year is different!
